The American Legion is proud to have members of every generation dating back to World War II. Through annual events and gatherings with the community, we commemorate those who serve past and present, paying homage to the dedication of those generations.

Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony
Every year, the Griswold Memorial Day parade honors fallen veterans with solemn ceremonies. The ceremony includes a tribute to local veterans who passed away in the previous year, marked by a the Honor Guard and taps played by a bugler at Fanning Park. Immediately following the ceremony, the parade commences. Ending at a bridge over the Quinebaug River, the parade concludes with the 'Decorating The Waters' ceremony, accompanied by another three-gun salute, taps, and the national anthem.
Following the ceremony, The American Legion places hundreds of American flags around varous cemetary at the graves of veterans.

Veterans Day Flag Laying
Annually, Griswold holds a Veteran’s Day ceremony at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Jewett City, expressing gratitude to all military veterans for their service, whether in wartime or peacetime. The Veteran Council gathers on the 11th day, on the 11th month, at 11:00 am, which has widely become the universal recognition to the celebrated ending of World War I fighting.

Thanksgiving Dinners
For nearly 20 years, the La Flamme-Kusek Czmyr Post 15 Inc. has been offering Thanksgiving Meals to the community, parntering with the Griswold Senior Center. Each year, hot meals are prepared for delivery on the morning of Thanksgiving to residents of Lisbon, Griswold, Jewett City, and Voluntown. To learn more about this program, please call 860-376-2604.

Chase Scholarship Awards
Each year, the American Legion La Flamme-Kusek-Czmyr Post 15 Inc. awards four (4) $500 awards to graduating Seniors of Griswold High School in memory of Elizabeth and Prentice Chase. Over $20,000 have been awarded at the Senior Scholarship Night for the following:
Chase Award for Nursing: Recognizing a deserving student entering the nursing profession.
Chase Award for Physical Education: Recognizing a senior who has excelled in Physical Education.
Chase Awards for Athletics: Recognizing an outstanding female and male athlete.

Jewett City Little League Baseball
The La Flamme-Kusek-Czmyr Post 15 Inc. has been a long time supporter of the Jewett City Little League, supporting teams each year accelerating the mission of The American Legion to provide youth programming through baseball.

Complimentary Pool
On Thursday and Friday Nights, Post 15 offers complimentary pool in the Canteen to any patron on our regulation size billiards table. Drop in to brush up your skills, or bring someone for a friendly game or two.
